Chiropractic Care for Migraines and Headaches

We work to identify what is actually driving your migraines or headaches, whether that is physical trauma, stress, nutrition, or another trigger, rather than only managing the pain.

Chiropractic Care for Migraines and Headaches

A migraine is typically a severe throbbing or pulsing pain, often on one side of the head, and can come with sensitivity to light or sound, nausea, or visual disturbances.

Headaches cover a wider range: tension, cluster, sinus, and cervical (neck-related) headaches among them. Triggers can include allergies, stress, poor sleep, or a stiff neck.

As pressure builds in the head and neck, the muscles around the upper neck tense and nerves can become pinched. A gentle adjustment in that area is aimed at relieving that pressure.

Triggers are wide-ranging: stress, light and sound, fatigue, diet, hunger, hormonal changes, weather, caffeine, and head trauma all appear regularly. Part of the work is identifying which apply to you.

A misalignment in the upper cervical spine can affect brain stem function, which in turn can contribute to swelling in the blood vessels around the brain. Misalignments accumulate from more sources than people expect, including the trauma of birth, falls, car accidents, sports and work injuries, and sustained physical or emotional stress.

Migraines

A migraine is a severe throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation, usually on one side of the head.

Migraine symptoms include intense pain, extreme sensitivity to light or sound, nausea, and vomiting. Some migraine sufferers also experience visual disturbances or auras, numbness, tingling, clumsiness, or have difficulty communicating.

Treating migraines

As a reaction to the symptoms of migraines, your upper neck becomes stuck, muscles tense up, pressure in your head builds and nerves pinch. The pressure continues to build until there is a gentle adjustment in your neck, relieving pressure and allowing you to heal.

Chiropractic care provides ways to relieve migraines by first identifying the cause of your migraines, such as physical trauma, emotional stress, nutritional deficiencies or chemical toxins, and working to correct these causes.

We have seen many patients find relief from their migraines, allowing them to eliminate their medications as a part of their migraine treatment. If you are currently living with migraines, there is hope.

Headaches

Headaches are pain and pressure in your head and upper neck.

If you are currently living with headaches, you know the most common symptoms include neck tension, a pounding sensation, elevated blood pressure, nausea and/or nerve pain.

There are different types of headaches, including migraine, cluster, sinus, tension, constant, and cervical (neck) headaches.

Symptoms can be brief or long-lasting. Triggers for headaches include allergies, hunger, thirst, stress, neck stiffness, lack of sleep and overuse of technology.

Treating headaches

There are remedies for headaches that do not involve medication. The first step in headache relief is to identify the cause. The majority of headache sufferers can trace their headaches back to an accident or a head injury.

These injuries can create simple muscle problems, joint damage or more serious nerve problems. It just makes sense to have a thorough chiropractic evaluation to see if your neck is causing your headaches.
